It was a record-breaking day for the Barone Middle School tracksters.
“The kids have been working so hard in practice and that is beginning to really show on both the track and field,” said head coach Marki Grant. “We had an exceptional meet in Rangely, once again taking the top places in each event that we competed in.”
BMS track had some major performances that resulted in setting new school records. The seventh-grade boys had an exciting 4×100 meter relay blowing the competition out of the water and setting a new school record. The new record-holding team consists of Jake Grieser, Bryant Turner, Lawson Anderson and Liam Thomson. This team not only beat the standing 4×100 record, but they crushed it by almost two seconds. Another exceptional performance was in the seventh-grade girls open 400-meter dash. Midy Carmargo ran a blazing 1 minute 5 seconds, beating the previous record of 1.07.
“The 400 meter is a thrilling yet tough race,” said Grant. “Midy made it look easy coming down the home stretch as she brought home the blue ribbon and new school record.”
Carnago also took first in the 100-meter hurdles.
BMS also placed first in the eighth-grade girls 4×200 meter relay and sprint medley relay, the seventh-grade girls 4×200, sprint medley relay, and 4×100 all took first as did the seventh-grade boys 4×100 and seventh-grade boys. Finishing on top in field events was Cienna Rogers in the seventh-grade girls discus, seventh-grade boys’ long jump by Lawson Anderson, and seventh-grade boys’ high jump, Jake Grieser.
“We are excited for our upcoming meet in Hayden and are looking for volunteers to help with our Meeker night relay meet on May 2,” commented Grant.
