MEEKER | Head coach Jamie Rogers and the lady Cowboys basketball team had a great weekend against league opponents, going 2-0 for Friday and Saturday’s games.
“I am so proud of the girls rebounding and defense this week. Our post players worked hard for the past two weeks in practice boxing out and ripping down rebounds and it really paid off in both games this weekend,” commented Rogers.
Friday in Kremmling the West Grand Mustangs allowed an early lead by Meeker which widened by 19 points in the third quarter. The final score was 47-24, juniors Sarah Kracht with 17 points and Makayla Wille with 11 led the team offensively. Rebounding string was Ainsley Selle with eight, Wille with seven, and Hadley Franklin with six.
Saturday the home crowd got to watch as the Cowboys took on the Hayden Tigers. Once again Kracht broke 20 points, scoring 23 of the 45 in the 45-41 victory.
The Cowboys had a great first quarter which was answered by the Tigers, but the Cowboys kept their lead.
“Sarah and Savvy’s defense on top created a lot of turnovers that they converted into points,” said Rogers.
Freshman Selle was the only other Cowboy to break double digit scoring, adding 13 herself and leading in rebounds with 15, just ahead of Franklin who had 14 and Wille with 10.
